Beijing wants greater co-operation with Moscow

BEIJING, December 20. /ITAR-TASS/. China's government hopes that “Russia and China will continue enhancing co-operation, thus promoting peaceful development both of the region and of the whole world,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Friday.

“Summarising results of the outgoing year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has mentioned two moments of Russian-Chinese relations,” the official said, Wang Yi having noted in a statement timed for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annual media conference on Thursday that President Xi Jinping had made his first foreign visit to Russia, one of five times they had met this year.

“This had a substantial influence on the development of relations between Russia and China,” Wang Yi's statement said.

Another important moment was the fact that “Russia and China maintain close co-operation in resolving international issues,” Hua Chunying added.

“This has an increasing influence on the whole world,” she said. “Russian-Chinese co-operation on a number of international issues has allowed our countries to influence the formation of a world tendency.”

The official noted that “in 2013, Russia and China actively co-operated on the North Korean, Syrian and Iranian issues, which had great importance for resolving these problems”.

“We believe that Russia and China will continue enhancing co-operation in the current complicated international situation,” Hua Chunying said.
