Ukraine’s ruling party plans to organize 200,000-rally in Kiev over weekend

KIEV, December 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s ruling Party of Regions has announced mobilization of its supports and plans to gather up to 200,000 supporters of the government for a rally in Kiev this weekend, Andrei Pinchuk, a lawmaker with the Party of Regions, said on Thursday.

“This decision was taken to meet numerous requests of the Party of Regions’ supporters,” he said. “The party receives numerous letters from people who are worried over the developments in the country. These people say they want to take part in an open-ended rally in support of the president’s course in order to preserve civil peace and accord in Ukraine.”

“Lawmakers, members of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction have taken a decision to support this initiative and offer assistance to the rally that has been held in Kiev’s Mariinsky Park for several days running,” Pinchuk said.

The Party of Regions has been holding a rally in support of the Ukrainian authorities in the Mariinsky Park since December 3. Several thousands of people have been gathering there every day.
