BRUSSELS, December 09. /ITAR-TASS/. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will visit Kiev on December 10-11, Ashton’s spokesperson Maya Kocijancic told Itar-Tass.
The visit will take place on Tuesday-Wednesday, the spokesperson said.
However, she did not elaborate.
Earlier, diplomatic sources told Itar-Tass that during the visit, the EU foreign policy chief was expected to meet Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, the opposition leaders and the civil society.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Yanukovich discussed Ashton’s visit during the telephone conversation on December 8.
This trip should help search for ways to settle the political crisis and improve a dialogue between the authorities and the opposition, the European Commission president said.
