BRUSSELS, December 09, 14:14 /ITAR-TASS/. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton can visit Kiev on Tuesday, December 10, a diplomatic source in Brussels told Itar-Tass on Monday.
At the same time, Ashton’s spokeswoman Maya Kocijancic said the agenda of the visit had not specified yet.
According to earlier reports, the EU foreign policy chief is expected to have meetings with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, the opposition leaders and the civil society.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Yanukovich discussed Ashton’s visit during the telephone conversation on December 8.
This trip should help search for ways to settle the political crisis and improve a dialogue between the authorities and the opposition, the European Commission president said.
