KIEV, December 08, 21:24 /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s opposition leaders are ready to undertake full responsibility for the situation in the country if a state of emergency is imposed, the national resistance headquarters said in a statement on Sunday.
“If [President Viktor] Yanukovich makes an unconstitutional attempt to impose the state of emergency in Ukraine, the national resistance headquarters, guided by the will of the people, will consider the president, the cabinet of ministers and other state authorities illegitimate and will be forced to take full responsibility for the situation in the country,” the statement said.
Earlier, opposition leaders repeatedly said that the country’s authorities were planning to convene the National Security and Defence Council to look at imposing the state of emergency.
