Protesters building barricades near Ukraine’s government building in Kiev

“We have come here to stay,” one of the opposition lawmakers taking part in the action said

KIEV, December 08, 17:43 /ITAR-TASS/. Protesters in Kiev are building barricades near the building of the Ukrainian government in central Kiev.

“We have come here to stay,” one of the opposition lawmakers taking part in the action said. Activists are bringing metal containers to make fire to warm themselves.

Opposition leaders say the action is not meant to seize the building. “Our action is peaceful,” Igor Shvaika, a lawmaker with the opposition party Svorboda (Liberty) said, adding that the action would be continued till the Nikolai Azarov government resigned.

Earlier on Sunday, the protesters blocked the street where the government’s building was located. Opposition leaders called on protesters to come here and promised that the blockade would be long. Meanwhile, a court ruling was announced on Friday that prohibited picketing of administrative buildings.
