DUSHANBE, December 06. /ITAR-TASS/. A powerful earthquake measuring five points on the open-end Richter scale was registered in the Republic of Tajikistan on Friday. The epicenter of the quake was located 26 kilometers southeast off Tajikistan’s Khudzhand and 130 kilometers of the capital city of Uzbekistan - Tashkent, the Geological service of the United States says.

According to Itar-Tass sources from Khudzhand, the underground tremor was rather strong and was particularly felt in the city’s multi-storey buildings. There was a certain panic in the city.

The sources gave no other details. A duty officer of the Tajikistani Emergencies Committee yet not received immediate information about destructions.

The Geophysical Service of the Tajikistani Academy of Sciences did not reported about details of the quake too. Due to the lack of electricity in the Service’s building, the seismic record still remains unexplained.
