BRUSSELS, December 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia played an important role in reaching agreement between the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany and Iran on Tehran’s nuclear program, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said before a session of the Russia-NATO Council on Wednesday.

Thus, Westerwelle praised cooperation between the North Atlantic Alliance and Russia on Iran’s nuclear program.

“As for Iran’s nuclear dossier, Russia played an important role to allow the parties (Tehran and five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany) to reach a first agreement,” the German minister said.

Despite different approaches towards the Syrian settlement, for example, cooperation with Russia “has big significance”, he said.

On November 24 Iran and the six countries approved a plan of action to ease tension around Tehran’s nuclear program. The six-month agreement envisions restrictions for Iran on developing the nuclear program in exchange to easing sanctions.
