Russia delivers humanitarian cargo to Syria’s Latakia

In 2013, the Russian Emergencies Ministry sent over 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Syria and neighboring Lebanon and Jordan

BEIRUT, December 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia delivered another humanitarian consignment to Syria’s Latakia on Tuesday, head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s international activity department Alexander Tomashov said.

An Il-76 cargo plane with 25 tonnes of food onboard landed at Bassel al-Assad International Airport, where the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s team was met by Latakia governor Ahmed Sheikh Abdul Qadir.

“This humanitarian cargo from Russia proves once again that Syria is not alone in its war on terror,” the governor said. “With the support of its friends the Syrian people will be able to win this battle.”

In 2013, the Russian Emergencies Ministry sent over 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Syria and neighboring Lebanon and Jordan. Another 70 tonnes were intended for Palestinian refugees in Syria. The humanitarian consignment consisted of tents, electric generators, dishware, camp furniture, blankets, food and baby food.

The ministry’s planes brought around 900 citizens of Russia and the CIS back to their homeland.
