PYONGYANG, November 30, (ITAR-TASS). North Korea announced on Saturday arrest of a U.S. citizen Merrill Edward Newman.

The KCNA news agency reports, he was arrested in October after arrived in the country with a group of tourists, which "committed hostile acts against the People's Republic."

In addition, the agency says, Newman during the Korean War of 1950-1953, which is known in North Korea as the Fatherland Liberation War, was in a special union of the US intelligence service in the Far East. The DPRK considers him a criminal, who at the time “managed the spy network in Korea, and was involved in the murder of the Korean People's Army soldiers and civilians.”
