Moldova initials association agreement with EU in Vilnius

VILNIUS, November 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Moldova initialed the association agreement with the European Union.

The document was signed here on Friday by Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton here on Friday.

Moldova and EU hope to sign the association agreement no later than the autumn of 2014 with the present mandate of the European Parliament and the European Commission. It is hoped in Chisinau that the decision on liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovan citizens will be signed in the same time frame. In the run up to the summit in Vilnius the European Commission made this proposal to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

The text of the agreement consists of nearly 1,000 pages. Its content is expected to be made public after the ratification.
