Russia reinforces Kyrgyz, Tajik borders

Decision promted by ISAF withdrawal from Afghanistan

MOSCOW, November 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia is reinforcing the Kyrgyzstani and Tajikistani borders in connection with the withdrawal of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) form Afghanistan, Russia's Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov told a news conference at Itar-Tass on Friday.

“During the year we have been ensuring favorable conditions for the strengthening of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), reinforcing the potentially dangerous sections,” he said.

The withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan is one of such factors. “I would not want this to turn into any threat for us,” he noted.

“In this connection we carry out the daily work aimed at military-technical reforming of the armed forces in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan,” the RF deputy defense minister said.
