CNN releases unedited version of Russian UN envoy’s Syria interview

Churkin earlier said he regretted the interview was broadcast in an abridged version, saying the most acute issues of a Syrian crisis settlement remained on the cutting-room floor

UN, November 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The website of U.S. TV channel CNN has released the full version of its interview with Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, two days after broadcasting edited content.

The full version has been published for the sake of transparency, CNN spokesman Jonathan Hawkins told Itar-Tass, adding that the interview had been edited before going on air to meet timings, which he described as normal practice. CNN never tampered with the meaning of interviews, Hawkins said.

Editors removed from Churkin’s Tuesday interview the call for turning an attentive ear to aspirations of the Syrian people, who mostly support President Assad, and a statement about the obstacles the opposition puts in the way of humanitarian aid.

Churkin later told Itar-Tass he regretted the interview was broadcast in an abridged version, saying the most acute issues of a Syrian crisis settlement remained on the cutting-room floor.
