SCO to approve multilateral cooperation program report

12th meeting of the Council of SCO heads of government will be held in Tashkent on November 29

TASHKENT, November 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The forthcoming meeting of the Council of the heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will consider a wide range of issues related to the organisation’s key focus areas, SCO Secretary General Dmitry Mezentsev told Itar-Tass in an exclusive interview.

“The SCO Secretariat’s report on the implementation of the program of multilateral trade-economic cooperation of the SCO member states for the past year will be presented to the heads of government and, I believe, will be adopted,” Mezentsev said.

“Another stage - of the work on a document that is unique in its own way - the Agreement on ensuring favorable environment for motor transportation between our countries, is coming to an end,” the organisation’s secretary general said. According to him, it is “a far-reaching, thoroughly adjusted draft document that will create not only a new regulatory framework, but will also ensure a new “quality” of transit through the countries - founders of the organisation.”

“The approval of many thousand-km routes on which cargoes will be transported quicker and more comfortably is near at hand. This will promote the development of the real economy sectors of the member counties,” Mezentsev said.

Reports of the SCO Business Council and SCO Interbank Association will be presented to the heads of government. Also, experts will continue to discuss issues related to the creation of the SCO Special Account (Development Fund) and SCO Development Bank, the secretary general added.

Mezentsev believes that it is extremely important that “SCO expert work for the preparation of the Organisation’s draft development strategy up to 2025 is unfolding.” “This is done pursuant to the decision that had been signed by the heads of state at the Beijing summit in 2012 and confirmed in the Bishkek Declaration of 2013,” the official stressed.
