ROME, November 27, (ITAR-TASS). Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was expelled from the Italian Senate by a 192-133 vote with two abstentions on Wednesday, November 27.
Berlusconi was elected to the Senate in February from the centre-right coalition. He is the leader of the People of Freedom party which recently changed its name to Forza Italia.
Berlusconi, 77, has been a member of the Senate either from the ruling coalition or opposition over the past 20 years.
The decision to expel Berlusconi from the Senate was made by its special commission following his conviction for financial fraud.
