Berlusconi expelled from Italian Senate

The decision to expel Berlusconi from the Senate was made by its special commission following his conviction for financial fraud

ROME, November 27, (ITAR-TASS). Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was expelled from the Italian Senate by a 192-133 vote with two abstentions on Wednesday, November 27.

Berlusconi was elected to the Senate in February from the centre-right coalition. He is the leader of the People of Freedom party which recently changed its name to Forza Italia.

Berlusconi, 77, has been a member of the Senate either from the ruling coalition or opposition over the past 20 years.
