STRELNA, November 22, 17:00 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia calls for convening the Geneva II Peace Conference as soon as possible, President Vladimir Putin told a news conference after the 4th session of the Russia-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council on Friday.
“I’d like the conference to take place as soon as possible,” Putin said.
“Russia obliged to convince the Syrian leaders and we carried out our task. Then this is the matter of our partners who should convince the opposition,” the Russian president said.
“We did not sit idly and we urge the Syrian opposition to gather in Moscow and hold additional consultations,” he said.
This issue was discussed with the Turkish premier, the Saudi Arabian king, the Iranian president and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Putin said.
