MOSCOW, November 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed measures to develop cooperation in various spheres during another round of the political consultations at the isle of Langkawi (Malaysia), Russia’s foreign ministry said on Friday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov was head of the Russian delegation.
“The participants have highlighted a positive dynamics of the dialog partnership between Russia and ASEAN. We have agreed on measures to develop further the practical cooperation in responding to new challenges in fighting threats, in the trade and investment, scientific and technical, in cultural spheres and in regional food security,” the Russian foreign ministry said.
The meeting paid attention to joint efforts in formation of a new system of inter-state relations in the Asia-Pacific Region and to promotion of a multilateral dialogue on security and regional economic integration.
“The exchange of views on international problems has demonstrated close or similar approaches to development of the situations in the Korean Peninsula, around the Iranian nuclear program, in the Middle East and in Northern Africa,” the foreign ministry said.
Another round of the Russia-ASEAN political consultations is due in Russia in 2014.
