Two powerful blasts kill at least 23 people near Iranian embassy in Beirut

Preliminary reports say the car bombs were set off by suicide bombers

BEIRUT, November 19. /ITAR-TASS /. Two powerful blasts have struck on Tuesday near the building of Iran’s embassy in southern Bir Hassan district. Firefighters have just put out the fire, and ambulances took the injured to hospitals. Interior Ministry experts are working at the site of the incident.

According to preliminary reports, car bombs were set off by suicide bombers that approached the western entrance of the embassy that is located near a residential compound. Al-Manar TV channel reports about at least 10 fatalities; a number of people received injuries of varying severity.

The death toll later rose to 23 casualties. Abdullah Azzam Brigades, a militant group with Al Qaeda connections, has claimed responsibility for this terrorist act.
