East Asia Summit members to meet soon in Brunei to discuss regional security architecture

“It is important to avoid attempts to build up own security at the expense of security of others,” Lavrov stressed

NEW DELHI, November 10 (Itar-Tass) - The first round of dialogue between member countries of the East Asia Summit will be held in Brunei in the next few days. It will be focused on issues of regional security architecture, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday after talks with his counterparts from India and China, Salman Khurshid and Wang Yi.

The minister reminded that jointly with China and Brunei, Russia had invited the East Asia Summit member countries to work out principles of cooperation in the area of regional security. The initiative was approved in Brunei on October 10.

“It is important to avoid attempts to build up own security at the expense of security of others,” Lavrov stressed. “The formation of a new architecture of security in interstate relations in the Asia Pacific region must meet the new realities when threats are becoming common for all, when there is no hiding behind the national boundaries.”
