BOGOTA, November 7 (Itar-Tass) - The Colombian Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday that it had handed a note of protest to Russian Ambassador to the country Pavel Sergiyev in connection with an unsanctioned flight of Russia’s Tupolev Tu-160 strategic bombers over the Latin American country.

The ambassador was summoned to the ministry where Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Arturo Morales handed him the corresponding document with the demand to give explanations in connection with the incident. “The Foreign Ministry today has sent a diplomatic note to the Russian government within the framework of protection of its sovereignty,” the ministry said.

In the view of the Colombian side, Russia’s Tu-160 bombers violated the airspace of the Latin American country during a flight from Venezuela to Nicaragua.
