Ministry of Education, Science prepares draft decree to hold Russia-EU Year of Science 2014

MOSCOW, November 6 (Itar-Tass) - The Ministry of Education and Science has prepared a president’s draft decree to hold Russia-EU Year of Science in Russia in 2014.

The draft decree has been made public at the disclosure information portal.

The draft decree has been prepared in circumvention of the agreements reached at the 13th Russia-EU summit, which has been initiated and will be held by the EU and Russia.

The summit’s purpose is to demonstrate the achievements in the research and development sector and create conditions for expanding scientific and technological cooperation between Russia and the EU. Russia-EU Year of Science is timed to launching a new framework programme “Horizon 2020” and resuming the agreement on scientific and technological cooperation between Russia and the European Union.

“Due to the need to expand long-term partnership between Russia and the EU countries the Russian government has been instructed to found and approve an organising committee to prepare and hold Russia-EU Year of Science. The government has been also instructed to work out and approve a plan to prepare and hold Russia-EU Year of Science 2014,” an explanatory note says.
