CARACAS, November 5 (Itar-Tass) - Venezuelan government has declared December 8 to be the Day of Love & Fidelity to Hugo Chavez and Homeland, says a decree by President Nicolas Maduro that was published Tuesday by Gaceta Oficial.

The full official title of the holiday reads: ‘Day of Fidelity to and Love for the Supreme Comandante Hugo Chavez and Homeland.’ This year, the Venezuelans are expected to go to the polls December 8 and to vote in the regular municipal elections.

President Maduro came up with a proposal at the end of October to study Hugo Chavez’s ideological heritage at general schools and universities.

In July, he made public the setting up of a research institute for the Comandante’s heritage, and the post of director there was taken by Adan Chavez, Comandante's elder brother and incumbent governor of Barinas State.

Hugo Chavez, who stood at the head of Venezuela for fourteen years, died March 5, 2013, after a dragged-out disease. The authorities said initially his body would be embalmed and placed in a mausoleum, but they changed their decision later on and buried him in a sarcophagus in the Revolution Museum in Caracas.

The sarcophagus is placed on a stone podium in the middle of a small pond in the form of a flower. An inscription on it says: 'The Supreme Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution Hugo Rafael Chavez -- 28.07.1954 to 05.03.2013.'

The Comandante's funeral was preceeded ten days of bidding an official farewell to him in the Hall of Glory of the Venezuelan Military Academy. Government spokespeople said about 4 million people came to the Academy to pay last tribute to the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution.
