KIEV, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - The Ukrainian Embassy in Mexico monitors the situation around a knife attack on Russian vice-consul in Panama Yevgeny Manilov by an Ukrainian citizen, Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevgeny Perebeynos said.

“As Ukraine has no embassy in Panama this matter is taken under control by the Ukrainian Embassy in Mexico and the consular department,” Perebeynos said.

“The Foreign Ministry instructed the Ukrainian honorary consul to Panama to meet a Ukrainian citizen, who is currently arrested, and reveal all circumstances of the incident,” the spokesman said, adding that the incident had been discussed with representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Russian vice-consul in Panama was with two other people in the parking lot of a large business centre on Friday morning when he was stabbed, according to local media reports.

An attacker tried to disappear, but the diplomat’s guard detained him at once, reports say.
