"We propose that the UN SC acts without delay, approves this letter by the UN Secretary General", Churkin noted

UNITED NATIONS, October 11 (Itar-Tass) - Recommendations on destroying the Syrian chemical weapons stockpile brought forward by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a letter to the UN Security Council should be implemented in the shortest possible time, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin told reporters on Thursday.

"We propose that the UN SC acts without delay, approves this letter by the UN Secretary General and endorses the establishment of a joint mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations," Churkin noted.

On October 7, Ban Ki-moon sent a letter with his recommendations to the UN SC proposing to establish a joint mission by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons with bases in Damascus and on the Cyprus, and a staff totaling some 100.
