ASTRAKHAN, August 23 (Itar-Tass) - Ships of Azerbaijan’s Navy will make an unofficial visit to Astrakhan, Russia’s Volga region, at the end of August, spokesman to the Southern Military District Alexei Rulev told Itar-Tass.
“We wait for three ships: an escort ship of 159 A Project and a ship of 888 Project. The detachment will be led by Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Sultanov Shakhin Ashrafoglu,” Rulev said.
Under the visit’s agenda, the guests will meet the command of the Caspian Flotilla and the Astrakhan region’s leaders. Sailors will lay wreaths at the Eternal Flame and at the moment of First Azerbaijani President Geidar Aliyev. “The joint performance of the orchestras of the Caspian Flotilla and the Republic of Azerbaijan should be one of the major events of the visit,” the spokesman said.
Ships of the Caspian Flotilla visited Azerbaijan several times. This year the Dagestan weapon ship and the Volgodonsk small artillery ship visited Baku in early August.
