Tajik family gunned down near border with Kyrgyzstan

The farmer's house had been attacked by unidentified persons, one of whom had a rifle

DUSHANBE, August 20 (Itar-Tass) - Unidentified attackers shot and killed a family of five in the Tajik village of Chorkhukh in the north of the republic overnight to Tuesday, the republic's Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass.

Police, citing eye-witnesses, said the farmer's house had been attacked by unidentified persons, one of whom had a rifle. Shots were heard near the house. The farmer, his wife, a relative and two underage grandsons were killed. The village is located near the border with Kyrgyzstan.

According to Tajik police, the attackers fled to Kyrgyzstan.

An investigation is underway.
