TEL-AVIV, August 13 (Itar-Tass) - Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has for the first time intercepted a rocket that was fired overnight to Tuesday by unknown gunmen at the resort city of Eilat in the south of Israel, the press service of the Israeli army told Itar-Tass.

“The Iron Dome missile defense system was engaged and intercepted the rocket. There have been no casualties and damage,” the source said. This is the first case of effective operational use of the Iron Dome system in the area of Eilat.

This city is located on the Red Sea near the Sinai Peninsula. Thousands of tourists from all over the world, including Russia, come there for holidays.

According to available information, the air raid warning sounded in Eilat, and two explosions were heard in its territory. The city has repeatedly come under rocket attacks.
