North Korean authorities force construction of major ski complex

Construction is underway on a natural plateau at an altitude of 1.3 kilometers above the sea level

PYONGYANG, August 12 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea’s Chief of the General Political Department of the Korean People’s Army /KPA/ Vice-Marshal Choe Ryong-hae has ordered to speed up construction of a large ski tourism complex in the east of the country. According to local media reports, he has visited the sports facility at the Masik pass, to which the country’s authorities are paying much attention.

"Supreme Commander Kim Jong-un has voiced the initiative to build the world's best ski resort and authorized the KPA to perform this task," the deputy marshal told a meeting, organized on the site.

He gave instructions to "establish the uninterrupted delivery to the pass of cement, steel structures and other necessary materials and equipment; to use innovative methods, and to work as quickly as possible to complete this project."

Construction is underway on a natural plateau at an altitude of 1.3 kilometers above the sea level. To service the tourists, the constructors are building quickly a hotel, cottages, a helipad, a cable car, and stations for ski rental. An official ceremony is scheduled for the coming winter.
