KIEV, July 23 (Itar-Tass) - Exports of Ukrainian chicken to the European Union countries may reach 50,000 tons before the end of 2013, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Foodstuffs Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk told a news conference Tuesday.

The opening of the European markets for the products of Ukrainian poultry industry is an event of crucial importance for Kiev, he said.

“I’m sure we’ll export no less than 50,000 tons this year and the figure will be growing from one year to another,” Prisyazhnyuk said.

He indicated the Ukrainian companies will slash the imports of chicken by 50% this year.

A total of four Ukrainian producers - the Mironovskaya Chicken Factory, the Legko meatpacking factory, the Agromars company, and the Snyatinskaya Nova poultry factory received corresponding permits.

According to the information available to the ministry officials, supplies of Ukrainian chicken to Europe may begin as early as July 24.
