Georgian catholicos to take part in festivities timed to 1025th anniversary of Baptism of Rus

The events will take place in Moscow, Kiev and Minsk

TBILISI, July 18 (Itar-Tass) - A delegation of the Georgian Orthodox Church led by Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia will take part in the festivities timed to the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, the Georgian Patriarchate reported on Thursday.

“The events will take place in Moscow, Kiev and Minsk. Ilia II and the Georgian Orthodox Church delegation will visit three cities within July 23 and July 30,” the Patriarchate said.

While in Moscow, the Georgian catholicos will meet Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to touch upon the reburial of the remnants of two Georgian tsars descended from the Bagrationi dynasty - Vakhtang VI of Kartli and Teimuraz II of Georgia.

No details are available. The Georgian Patriarchate said the details of the Georgian catholicos’ upcoming visit to Russia, Ukraine and Belarus would be specified later.
