Days of Russia begin on Greek island Rhodes

The Days of Russia take place during the International Music Festival on the Rhodes Island, which the Kedros Foundation holds for the sixth year in succession

ISLAND RHODES (Greece), July 17 (Itar-Tass) - The Days of Russia will open on the Greek island Rhodes on Wednesday. The Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Greece will hold its meeting, an international music festival and a scientific methodological seminar titled “The Russian language through the music” will be held during the Days of Russia, Yelena Kondratova, the chairperson of the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Greece, the president of the non-profit public foundation Kedros and the general director of the Greek-Russian Chamber of Commerce, told Itar-Tass.

In her words, “The results of the work, which the Council has done for the past year, and the plans for the future will be discussed, a representative from Greece for the conference, which will be held in Moscow in October over the contribution of compatriots in the development of Russian culture, will be elected” at a meeting of the Council, which will be held with the assistance of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture at the Russian Embassy in Athens and the Greek-Russian Chamber of Commerce.

Kondratova noted that the Days of Russia are held during the International Music Festival on the Rhodes Island, which the Kedros Foundation holds for the sixth year in succession. “This festival is organized under the aegis of the Prefecture of the Dodecanese Islands in the Aegean Sea and the Russian Embassy in Greece,” the president of the foundation said. “The students of the Russian musical educational establishments (the Moscow Conservatoire and the Central Musical School) and several European countries (the Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy) participate in the festival. During the festival the master courses of famous Russian pedagogues and concerts of the professors and soloists are held. An outstanding pianist and soloist of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonics Alexander Gindin will perform at a concert on Wednesday,” she said.

Director of the Moscow House of Compatriots at the Moscow government poet Nikolai Zhdanov-Lutsenko, who is an author of the words of the hymn of the compatriots, will participate in the Days of Russia, Kondratova said. “Our compatriot living in Greece Sergei Shabutin composed the music to the hymn. As not only the musicians, but also the singers participate in the festival, we want to hold the first official presentation of this piece of music in public today,” she said.

Kondratova also noted that an international scientific methodological seminar titled “The Russian language through the music” will be held on Thursday and Friday, July 18 and 19, with the participation of the bilingual pedagogues, who teach the Russian language to the foreigners and children of Russian compatriots living aboard. As many as 15 participants from several European countries, including Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Great Britain and Greece will take part in the seminar.
