Rostov region hosts active phase of CSTO tactical drills Kobalt 2013

Taking part in the drills are special police units from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia

MOSCOW, July 11 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Rostov region will host an active phase of the special tactical exercise Kobalt 2013 for special police units of member-states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on Thursday, the CSTO press service said.

Taking part in the drills are special police units from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia, which is represented by Zubr and Rys police units, special rapid response units SOBR and OMON as well as servicemen of the North Caucasus regional command of the Russian Interior Ministry.

“During the drills servicemen will master how prevent terrorist groups’ activities and intercept channels for trafficking arms, explosives and drugs on the territory of a CSTO member-state,” the press service said.

This is the second such exercise. The first one took place in early June of 2010 in the Rostov region.
