About 500 CSTO interior officers to take part in Cobalt 2013 exercises

The Cobalt 2013 exercises will take place on July 4-12, 2013 and involve special units of CSTO law enforcers

MOSCOW, July 1 (Itar-Tass) - About 500 officers from special interior units of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation will take part in the Cobalt 2013 anti-terrorist exercises, CSTO press secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov told Itar-Tass.

“The Cobalt 2013 exercises will take place on July 4-12, 2013 and involve special units of CSTO law enforcers. The exercises are aimed at using the forces and means to disarm and neutralize illegal armed formations, and curb the activity of terrorist groups,” Zainetdinov said.

The exercises will be held at the Kadamovsky training centre, North Caucasian Interior Command. The troops are planning to train joint operations to curb the activity of terrorist groups and illegal channels of contraband weapons, explosives and drugs on the CSTO space.

The exercises will involve special units of police and interior troops of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
