ANKARA, June 29 (Itar-Tass) - Turkey’s resolution on Syria submitted to the OSCE does not reflect the real situation in the country, head of the Russian delegation to the OSCE PA, Russian State Duma deputy Nikolai Kovalev told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
“We voiced our disagreements. But we failed to put it aside. The resolution does not reflect today’s realities,” Kovalev said.
The Russian lawmaker recalled that after the G-8 summit and after the Russian-American talks the parties had agreed on the need to settle the crisis with the participation of all sides by peaceful means.
“The document does not take it into account. The resolution has no provisions on the convocation of the G-2 conference,” Kovalev said.
The talks in Geneva are designed to gather the Syrian authorities and the opposition around the negotiating table. Meanwhile, the opposition sets preconditions related to withdrawing troops from cities and stopping military actions. The opposition also refuses to hold talks with Bashar al-Assad and his entourage.
