Geneva-2 conference to be convened in August or September at best - diplomatic source

GENEVA, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - A Geneva-2 conference on Syria will be convened in August or even in September at best, a diplomatic source close to the Three-party meeting on Syria told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The parties “have failed to agree exact dates,” the source said. “The meeting may be held not earlier than August or September.”

Earlier, the source said that the parties have failed to agree potential participants in such a conference either and decided to hold one more preliminary meeting.

“There is no clarity about the dates. And there will no such clarity today,” the source said. “There is understanding about another preparatory meeting.”

The second round of consultations between Russia, the United States and the United Nations is being held in Geneva on Tuesday. The consultations are dedicated to the preparations for an international peace conference on Syria. The first round was held here on June 5. The participants then failed to square all the positions and agree the date and procedure of the would-be conference.
