Russian president offers help to India

According to the local authories, the floods killed more than 550 people

MOSCOW, June 22 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered help to Indian leaders to deal with consequences of the floods that hit the country’s northern regions, the Kremlin press service said.

The Russian leader expressed condolences to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the heavy death toll and severe damage caused by the floods.

The president in the telegramme expressed sympathy for those who lost relatives and friends and support for all who were affected and lost their homes. He offered help to the friendly Indian nation to cope with the consequences, the press service said.

The floods caused by continuing monsoon rains began to hit India last weekend, causing landslides. According to the local authories, the floods killed more than 550 people.
