Belarus security services detain man on suspicion of espionage for foreign intelligence

Chairman of the State Security Committee did not concretize for the intelligence of what country the foresaid man worked

MINSK, May 30 (Itar-Tass) - The Belarusian security services detained a man on suspicion of gathering the information for the foreign intelligence.

“A man, who is suspected of gathering the information for the foreign intelligence, was detained in Minsk last week,” Chairman of the State Security Committee Valery Vakulchik told reporters on Thursday.

Meanwhile, he did not concretize for the intelligence of what country the foresaid man worked, noting that the latter was caught red-handed when receiving the information.

“We cannot make public other information yet, the investigation is in progress,” Vakulchik said.

Last November, the State Security Committee detained Novopolotsk resident Andrei Gaidukov, 22, on suspicion of gathering and transfer of the information on the mission of the foreign intelligence.

The trial in the criminal case against Gaidukov, who is accused of high treason, will sooner be held behind closed doors, Vakulchik underlined.
