Russia and Jordan call on all involved parties for active efforts to organise conf on Syria

Lavrov and Judeh expressed deep concern about the “complicated humanitarian situation with the inflow of refugees from Syria to Jordan”

MOSCOW, May 10 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Jordan call on all involved parties to undertake active efforts to organise an international conference on Syria, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said following a meeting between Minister Sergei Lavrov and Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, which took place on Thursday.

“They exchanged views on the situations in the Middle East and Northern Africa,” the ministry said. “The foreign ministers paid special attention to the situation in Syria. They stressed the necessity to stop the bloodshed and to begin negotiations between the government and the opposition’s all groups, which should get united on a constructive platform for a political settlement of the Syrian crisis.”

The two ministers stressed “the importance of active efforts of all involved parties to implement the Russian-American initiative on organisation of an international conference on implementation of the Geneva Communiqu· of June 30, 2012.”

Lavrov and Judeh expressed deep concern about the “complicated humanitarian situation with the inflow of refugees from Syria to Jordan.”

“They stressed that with the importance of the urgent assistance, the core settlement of the problem of the Syrian refugees is connected directly with the soonest normalisation of the situation and with the political settlement in Syria,” the source continued.

The two foreign ministers discussed the Palestine-Israel settlement and “supported organisation of conditions to bring the Palestinians and the Israelis to the negotiation table for re-launching of the substantive negotiation process.”

Besides, during the meeting, the parties touched upon issues of the Russia-Jordan relations and outlined practical measures for their further development.
