MOSCOW, April 24 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Emergencies Ministry has sent two planes with a 26-tonne humanitarian aid onboard to Syria, the ministry’s spokeswoman, Irina Rossius, told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
“This humanitarian consignment was collected by the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society with the support of the Russian Orthodox Church and with assistance of the Russian Committee for Solidarity with People of Lebanon and Syria and Russia’s Emergencies Ministry,” she said.
The batch mainly contains food staff, essentials and medical equipment.
The Il-76 and Il-62 planes are on their way to Latakia.
Last March the Emergencies Ministry delivered 11 tonnes of blankets and food staff to Syria. On February 19 two planes supplied 40 tonnes of urgent humanitarian aid there. Moreover, several humanitarian consignments for Syrian refugees were brought to Jordan and Lebanon.
