TOKYO, April 24 (Itar-Tass) - Japan's Coast Guard on Wednesday arrested a citizen of Russia -- the shipmaster of a Cambodian-flagged ship engaging in unlawful crabbing operations. Local law enforcement agencies reported that the ship was detained within Japanese exclusive economic zone near the northern island of Hokkaido.
The name of the arrested Russian has not been disclosed.
The latest similar incident was reported at the end of 2011 when Japanese patrol boats detained a Russian shipmaster whose ship engaged in unlawful crab-catching operations in the same area. A Japanese court then sentenced him to a fine of two million yen (about $20,000).
