Total intends to export Yamal LNG to UK and northwestern Europe

“We’re negotiating with people who have terminal capacity in northwest Europe including the UK at the moment,” Jacques Besse said

LONDON, April 12 (Itar-Tass) - French Total intends to export Russia’s Yamal liquefied natural gas to Great Britain and northwestern Europe, vice president of LNG shipping at Total, Jacques Besse, told Reuters on Thursday.

Reuters reports that exports from an LNG plant under construction in Yamal will begin in 2016. Gas will be delivered to the European market only in winter, when the North Sea Route to Asia along Russia’s northern coast becomes impassible.

“We’re negotiating with people who have terminal capacity in northwest Europe including the UK at the moment,” Jacques Besse said.

“The intention is to sell part (of the LNG) on the northwest European market and to export (the rest) through a terminal to more valuable markets,” he said in the interview.

Total is developing Yamal with Russian partner Novatek.
