TOKYO, April 3 (Itar-Tass) The US armed forces in South Korea have created a special structure that should take control of nuclear facilities in North Korea in the event of exceptional circumstances. It was formed at the end of last year, the Seoul-based Donga Ilbo newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The special forces in the first place should seize the Yongbyon nuclear centre, located 80 kilometres north of Pyongyang, as well North Korea’s secret uranium enrichment enterprises. Such an action, the report says, is to be taken if the North Korean leadership loses control over these facilities.

The plan of operations to seize in a short period of time nuclear facilities throughout North Korea has already been prepared. This action is to prevent getting of radioactive materials, nuclear weapons and related technologies into the hands of terrorist organisations or other states.

The unit, which prepares such operations, has for the first time conducted exercises during the US-South Korean military manoeuvres Key Resolve in the middle of March, 2013.
