83 miners remain buried in Tibet’s landslide for third day

More large vehicles were sent to the affected area to clear the rubbles

BEIJING, March 31 (Itar-Tass) – Eighty-three people have been remaining buried in a landslide that hit a mining area in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region for the third day, the Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

More large vehicles were sent to the affected area to clear the rubbles.

A major landslide rocked a camp of gold mine workers located approximately 68 kilometers from the regional capital of Lhasa.

At present, rescuers found bodies of two workers under the rubbles. The future of others remains unknown. However, there are quite a few chances to find the survivors, the local agency reported.

The rescue operation is aggravated by low temperatures, snow and oxygen deficiency in the mountainous area. According to reports, many rescuers need medical aid themselves.

The operation takes place at the height of 4,600 meters above sea level.
