The Appellate Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia on Thursday acquitted General Momcilo Perisic

THE HAGUE, February 28 (Itar-Tass) – The Appellate Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia on Thursday acquitted General Momcilo Perisic, the former chief of staff of the Yugoslav Army, and ordered to release him from custody.

In September 2011, General Perisic was sentenced to 27 years in prison on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina in 1993-1995.

Judge Theodor Meron said on Thursday that Perisic could not effectively control the actions of his subordinates who committed crimes during the siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica massacre in 1995 as well as during a rocket attack on Zagreb in May 1995.
