STOCKHOLM, February 3 (Itar-Tass) – Russia has won the gold medals of the Bandy World Championships in Sweden on Sunday. Mikhail Yuryev’s Russian squad defeated 4-3 (2-1) Sweden in the final match on Sunday.
The Swedish bandy hosts scored the first goal – Daniel Andersson on the 8th minute, but just 1.5 minutes later Pyotr Zakharov equalized the score. Yevgeny Ivanushikin gave a lead to Russia with the goal on the 35th minute.
In the second half Ivanushkin doubled the score on the 70th minute to 3-1. Andersson cut the lag behind Russia on the 72nd minute, but Yuri Shardakov scored again on the 83rd minute, giving Russia a lead of two goals – 4-2. Patrik Nilsson scored the final goal for Sweden at the 90th minute.
So, Russia regained the world champion title, taking revanche on Sweden for the defeat in the final match in the previous year. The national team of Russia and its Soviet Union predecessor prolonged a record series of victories at the Bandy World Championships to the 21st world champion title. Sweden has won 11 gold medals.
Finland has won the world championships in 2004, only once interfering in the competition between Russia and Sweden.
Kazakhstan has won the bronze medals 6-3 in a match with Finland.
