Nazarbayev declares Jan 31 mourning day in Kazakhstan

He also proposed to hold a moment of silence for the crash victims

ASTANA, January 30 (Itar-Tass) – President Nursultan Nazarbayev has declared January 31 the nationwide mourning day for victims of the Challenger-200 passenger jet crash.

“I’ve declared January 31 the nationwide mourning day for victims of the air crash near Almaty,” the head of state said at a meeting with law enforcers on Wednesday.

Nazarbayev also proposed to hold a moment of silence for the crash victims.

The Challenger-200 passenger jet of SCAT Airlines crashed on the Kokshetau-Almaty route near Almaty’s International Airport on Tuesday, January 29. At least 21 people were aboard the jet. All passengers were killed.
