Georgian Military Highway closed for motorists over snowfall

Rescuers recommend drivers to refrain from trips to Lars until weather conditions improve

MOSCOW, December 23 (Itar-Tass) — The Georgian Military Highway, a major route through the Caucasus from Georgia to Russia, has been closed for motorists again, a spokeswoman for the North Ossestian emergencies department, Yulia Starchenko, told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“Following recommendations of Georgia’s Darial border checkpoint the traffic at the road section Vladikavkaz-Lars was suspended over snowfall, worsening weather conditions and impossibility to ensure safe traffic of motor vehicles,” she said.

“On the 35th kilometer of the Georgian Military Road a heating and hot food facility continues to operate,” Starchenko said.

Rescuers recommend drivers to refrain from trips to Lars until weather conditions improve.
