Putin receives opera stars Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras

Greeting the famous tenors, the Russian president said it was a great honor and pleasure for him to welcome them in Moscow

NOVO-OGARYOVO, December 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday met with world opera stars Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras who arrived in Moscow to appear at a charity concert on Wednesday.

Greeting the famous tenors, the Russian president said it was a great honor and pleasure for him to welcome them in Moscow. “I would like to say thanks to you for finding time to come to the Russian capital,” Putin said.

Domingo and Carreras invited Putin to attend their tomorrow’s performance.

“I would be glad to do so but tomorrow we plan a big international event,” the Russian president said, adding that he would be very busy in the morning. “It is a pity these two events coincide.”

“There is no better musical instrument than a human voice,” he noted. “And the instruments you have are absolutely unique. Of course, I would be glad to accept your invitation and attend the concert. I will bear it mind that you have invited me and will try to adjust my schedule some time in the future to have a chance to listen to you singing.”
