MOSCOW, December 18 (Itar-Tass) – Russian embassy in Damascus has confirmed that two Russians, one of whom has a dual Russian-Syrian citizenship, have been kidnapped on the territory of Syria, embassy spokesman Sergei Markov told Itar-Tass.

“Three persons have been kidnapped in the Tartus-Homs area,” he said. “One of them has a Russian passport, another has a dual Russian-Syrian citizenship, and one more person is a citizen of Italy.”

“The embassy is taking active measures to establish their whereabouts,” Markov said, adding that all the three are workers of a local private company.

The Italian Foreign Ministry said earlier that an Italian citizen and two colleagues of his had been kidnapped near Tartus. According to the information available to the Italian sources, all the three worked at a steel mill in Latakiyah.
