Yerevan not interested in aggravating situation, expects the same from Baku

The Armenian Foreign Ministry noted that the Azerbaijani army opened fire on many sections of the border on the night of April 5-6

YEREVAN, April 6. /TASS/. The Armenian Foreign Ministry called the actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the border a provocation, stating that Yerevan is not interested in exacerbating the situation in the region and urging Baku to stop escalating the issue.

In particular, the Foreign Ministry noted that the Azerbaijani army opened fire on many sections of the border on the night of April 5-6 in order to provoke the Armenian Armed Forces to take similar countermeasures in order to "substantiate Baku’s misinformation" about Yerevan’s intention to start military actions.

"Armenian Armed Forces units, having assessed the situation, did not take any actions that would contribute to further escalation, after which the situation along the border calmed down. The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirms that Armenia is not interested in aggravating the situation in the region and calls on Azerbaijan to stop actions aimed at escalating the issue," the statement said.

Earlier on Saturday, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense stated that over the past 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces fired at the positions of the Azerbaijani army on the border of the two countries 30 times.
